What is Happening Within the Jobs Market Right Now?

With so many different official statistics and varied opinions about the jobs market, we decided to bring you an overview of what is really happening in the UK’s jobs market and where the opportunities are.  We talk to Belinda Johnson, founder of Worklab, who has for many years been deciphering government statistics, data and market intelligence into useful insights on the UK’s workforce.  This episode is essential listening for all UK job seekers, tune in here.

HMRC issued a briefing yesterday on off-payroll legislation, which basically served to warn businesses and contractors to comply with the changes that are coming in April.  Not much new there then.  But it is very interesting to see within the depths of the report an acknowledgement that the off-payroll changes might encourage people into non-compliant schemes – a fact that has always been vigorously denied by HMRC until now.   Read our full analysis here

In other news, we have been pleased to see the political pressure gathering pace to support the various forgotten groups who are ineligible for government COVID-19 financial support.  This time it is the Treasury Select Committee that has published a damning report that openly criticises the government’s continued lack of action to support certain categories of limited company directors and self-employed people.  In addition, you may have seen that the Institute of Directors has also called on the government to take action in the Chancellor’s budget to avoid damaging tax hikes for entrepreneurs.  You can catch up on both stories here and here.
