Why is the Recruitment Industry so Often Vilified and Does it Matter?

Recruitment is often a vilified profession, much-maligned by candidates who feel they are poorly treated.  And as our audience includes agency workers we thought we should examine why.  To help us do that, we spoke to Tim Jacob who has some 25 years experience as a recruiter and now advises recruitment firms on how to grow, increase profitability and deliver value.  He shared lots of eye-openers about how recruitment actually works in practice, the different needs of candidates vs the clients that they might work for, why it is important to understand this, and how you can use the insights to your advantage.  Get the lowdown here.

Whilst speculation has continued that the Budget (due on 3 March 2021) may include measures for self-employed people to pay more tax and/or NICs, the Chancellor has continued to deny the plight of the millions of forgotten people who have received zero COVID-19 financial support.  In fact in a letter Rishi Sunak stated that he did not recognise the “3 million excluded” figure, despite the fact that he was provided with detailed statistics and analysis to back up the figure.  Of course, the unstoppable Rebecca Seeley Harris refused to accept this and assisted the Gaps In Support APPG* of MPs in drafting a suitably robust response, which in turn has received widespread support from many MPs in all parties.

I mentioned to Rebecca that it must be taking some resilience and effort to keep up the pressure and continuously correct the government’s rhetoric – she replied simply that this issue is too important not to.  And it truly is.  I simply cannot understand how it is possible to effectively ignore so many people without justification, and I really do hope that the budget will bring some good news that is so desperately needed.

More positively, we know that some of you are managing to continue your self-employed business despite the pandemic, and that some have seen an opportunity set up a new business.  So we decided to bring you some practical ideas on how to get your marketing to stand out, and demystify several key aspects of doing exactly that.  So if you’re not sure where to start, or if you just want to review your approach to marketing then you can find out more here.

Lastly, I was delighted to join the expert panel on an IR35 webinar hosted by CXC Global recently.  It was a great event with lots of practical information on how businesses should prepare for April’s changes, what is an SDS, what is reasonable care, what are the risks, and what happened when similar legislation was introduced to the public sector.  You can watch the recording here.

Elevate is a fantastic payroll service, knowledgeable, helpful, professional, and efficient. As an agency worker I have had dealings with many payroll companies and elevate is by far the best and I have never had a problem, would recommend to everyone and I will only continue to use Elevate as there is never any hassle.

I have been with Elevate for some time now, and I have always been paid on time. I have never had any problems at all, and they have been amazing whilst going through the difficult time of Covid-19. I can’t thank them enough.

Elevate payroll are extremely professional and when any problem is found they are personal and help until a good conclusion, they were my preferred payroll company whilst I was working in Swindon on an office refurbishment.
I would recommend elevate to anyone around Wiltshire/Swindon area and I would like to be paid by them again in the future
Professional and personal at the same time; fantastic.

I approached Daniel at Elevate to help me payroll a good size cohort of contractors. Daniel was always super helpful; thinking outside the box and coming up with ideas to support not just the contactors but for me as well. Daniel is always upfront; honest; flexible and above all, put my contractors at the forefront by always working hard to ensure they were paid on time or even early in most cases which always went down really well with the guys thus creating a better working environment. The team at Elevate have been readily available for any urgent queries and have been able to offer some great guidance. My contractors have valued being with Elevate and all of them hope to be able to stay with Elevate moving forward.
I would go nowhere else to payroll now. I have been approached by many for the business; and its clear to me that Daniel will not only work over and above to maintain excellent customer/client services but will do so with the upmost integrity.
We genuinely feel like a partnership has been formed and wish all the best to Elevate and the team.
